Album "Family Tree"

All the people you see here are either my ancestors from my father's side or their friends.

Most of them I've never met, but my father told me what he remembers about them which makes them more real to me. Almost all photos are from the early 20th century.

A lot of the material I use for this album I found in my father's house when he had to move to a nursery home and my sister and I cleaned out his house. Most of it is from my grandfather's tailor stash my dad had kept. Lucky and grateful me...

The Cover

Frieda, one of my paternal great aunts. This was the first photo I put into the album using twigs and rusted vintage fabric from my father's house. Since I liked the photo so much I also experimented with it in Procreate.

Hedwig, another one of my paternal great aunts. I don't know anything about her, but I imagined her with a bicycle.

Minna, another of my paternal great aunts in 1950, 1919 and in her work shop ironing some fabric using a non-electric iron. She was a ladies' tailor, loved to read and played the piano.

This is my paternal grandma and the only grandmother I had. She was born in 1900 and loved to take walks in the forest even when rheumatism made it difficult in her later years. I have very fond memories of her.

Btw: The little girl in the bottom right photo is me.

The pictures I used as background are resized prints from oil paintings painted by my uncle (my dad's older brother) in 1940 and 1941. Like many young men of his age, he was drafted to fight in WW II. He was reported as missing in action in Italy in 1944 and was never found.

Lots of the material I used in this album page are from my granddad's tailor stash of which my dad had luckily kept a lot. I claimed it for my stash when my sister and I cleaned out my dad's house.

This is my paternal and only granddad. He was born in 1896 and worked as a tailor like his father before him. Until his father was too old, they had a business together.

Unfortunately, he died when I was only two years old, so sadly I don't remember him at all.

Btw: The baby in the bottom right photo is me in 1962
